So it’s Burns Night, it’s also my Dad’s Birthday (actually it’s his 60th but sshhhhhhh) and I’m dashing out to meet him for a drink after work. There’s just enough time to have a quick bath and grab something to eat and I’ve got a craving for haggis, now the boy doesn’t like it so there’s not much point me cooking a whole one and I haven’t got time to prepare a full meal……but I found some Macsween haggis slices in Waitrose at lunchtime. Obviously these are way overpriced for 2 tiny thin slices, but it’s payday and like I explained, I’ve got a craving and sometimes these things have got to be indulged.
I just fried the haggis slice and some onion, bunged in a ciabatta roll, finished with slices of mozzarella and handfuls of wild rocket and toasted it all in the panini press till the cheese started to melt…..
And it’s actually not bad, I think most food can be enhanced by surrounding it lovingly in bread and the peppery rocket cuts through the rich haggis nicely, with the sweetness of the onions and goo factor from the cheese, this works. No denying it’s dirty food, but it tastes good and I think it’s gonna be a pretty good stomach liner for the gins I’ll be knocking back later!
